Frequently Asked Questions
- Where does Whisper get its data?
- When the teacher authenticates Whisper, the app grabs Google Classroom data associated with the teacher's account via the API.
- What if the students aren't in my class when I send the message?
- Students don't have to be in your physical classroom when messages are sent. They simply need to be logged into Chrome. And if a student is not at a computer or Chromebook when the message is sent, the message will await them when next they log into Chrome.
- Can students respond through Whisper?
- No. Whisper is designed as a way for teachers to message an entire class or students individually, but students can only receive and view messages.
- Whoa, that's a lot of permissions? Why do you need email permissions?
- When we released Whisper to our first group of beta testers, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive with one exception. In a few of the districts represented by our beta testing group, Whisper was a non-starter because the communication between teacher and student was not viewable by anyone other than teacher and student(s). To remedy that, we added a feature so that each time a Whisper message is sent, the teacher also receives an email with the content of the message. The email is sent *from* the teacher *to* the teacher, so it stays within proper boundaries. Adding this feature made Whisper compliant with the needs of many districts worldwide that archive teacher communication using Google Vault or a comparable service.

- Will you read my email?
- No! Be rest assured we will not do anything bad with this access, and we'll use it ONLY for sending these Whisper messages. To be clear, there's nothing else we could do with your email anyway, given the limited permissions. We'll only use that access to send Whisper messages from you to you so we all stay out of trouble.
